Become a Country Delegate

Back to the search page...

Thanks for your interest.

Here we'll explain what it means to be a Country Delegate and what the requirements are.

Country Delegates are responsible for administrating the address entries in the directory for the countries assigned to them. This covers all types of entries, except those for businesses and ISKCON Affiliates. Country Delegates get a login name and password with which they can access the administration interface of the directory. Once logged in, they can add, delete or correct entries for their countries. If a delegate has more than one country assigned, a drop-down menu offers the choice which country to work with.

Updates are usually prompted by two events. Obviously, address changes or additions from internal sources will be the most reliable. However, if a delegate lives away from a temple or is in any other way unable to get this first-hand information, the next best source is the information coming from the addition and correction form on the directory's website. These submissions are sent directly to the email address of the delegate.

To those who already maintain one or more address lists on their local country websites this whole delegate thing may look like a lot of extra work. However, this directory supports custom list links, which really offer an easy way to consolidate all your address maintenance. Click here to find out more.

Administrating our database comes with great responsibility. After all, the effectiveness and usefulness of the directory depends on its accuracy -- which is the responsibility of its administrators. Every year over 50,000 people use this directory to find a spiritual shelter somewhere on this planet. A number that is growing every day. Therefore we do not take this task lightly and expect our delegates to do the same.

Country Delegate Requirements

  • Two ISKCON references that can vouch for your integrity.
  • A valid and stabile email account.
  • The ability to respond to feedback promptly and with discrimination.
  • Adherence to the Country Delegate Guidelines listed below.

Direct involvement with the administration of an ISKCON temple is not required, but preferred, as it lends itself better for delegate associated tasks.

Country Delegate Guidelines

  • We don't list non-ISKCON related addresses.
  • We don't list addresses of GBC members or BBT-Trustees.
  • Get-together submissions require two references of ISKCON authorities.
  • Delegates can't list ISKCON Affiliates, businesses, or private persons.

The above guidelines are the result of several years of experience with administrating the directory and processing feedback. A certain amount of feedback is simply unfit for inclusion in the directory. Over the years, many non-ISKCON groups and fringe groups, or their supporters, have tried to get their addresses listed, as have many non-devotee business owners (notably from India). Some will even feign ISKCON affiliation. Delegates are therefore expected to be selective.

Think you can do the job? Great!

Let us know

who your two ISKCON references are, what email address you'd want us to use, and for which country or countries you can be the delegate. Also, please include a simple explanation why you think you qualify.

Thanks! Hope to hear from you soon!
